Easter 2013

Our Easter was pretty simple this year.  And it was really nice.

Saturday we dyed eggs.  Only 7 though.  And, sadly, I didn't boil them quite long enough so they were pretty  inedible.  I really like deviled eggs so it was a little bit of a bummer.  Perhaps I'll have to boil some and make deviled eggs on a random day of the week.

Isaac got a kick out of dying them though.

And Ben looked on, all smiles. I think he already wishes he could do everything his older brother could.  He watches Isaac with such intensity and admiration and is quick to smile at his big brother.

He was so proud of his colored eggs.

We have church early on Sunday so there was no egg hunting early at our house.  Isaac got two new cars and a chocolate bunny in his basket from his parents before church and then we hunted eggs when we got home.  It was a little chaotic because I was also trying to get dinner going and take care of a screaming Ben. I don't know what was up with him but Ben had a meltdown about 15 minutes before church ended and continued to scream until we got home and gave him a bottle.  He had eaten not all that long ago so I didn't try that sooner but maybe he is growth spurting or something...who knows.  He hasn't done it since Sunday, thankfully.

Isaac loved finding the eggs and eating a little bit of candy too.  We didn't fill the eggs very full so as to keep the sugar binge to a minimum.

Ben played with his Easter basket.  He got a new book from Jacob and I, no candy.  Sorry baby.

But who needs candy when you've got a bucket to chew on anyway?

We read some of the Easter scriptures on Saturday night and talked about Jesus and the Resurrection.  In nursery they talked about the Resurrection too and made a cute little tomb with a stone that rolled away and a  figure of Jesus that can leave the tomb.  Isaac played with that all day and talked about the Resurrection.  It was sweet.  I'm sure he doesn't get it at all but someday he will and I hope he knows how grateful I am for all Jesus did for us so we can live together as a family forever.  I love my boys!

What's Up?

Does your family's Sunday activities include "family nap time?"  Because ours does.  Except no one really naps.  Isaac spends all his time running up and down the stairs bringing down blankets and pillows and animals for everyone.  Then he'll lie down for 2 seconds and jump up to start giving out toys.  Who doesn't nap with a train set after all?

It's pretty great.

Isaac's imagination has been taking off lately.  He is into "cooking" with my pots and pans.  He made cupcakes, soup, and cookies.

Ben's just cute.  He still only rolls occasionally and only from stomach to back.  I think it's funny that most of the time he's on his stomach it ends in face plants into the blanket and tears even though he is fully capable of rolling.  Well, he also really likes grabbing things so he spends a good portion of tummy time pulling his blankets into his face.

This picture is awesome.  Isaac has total crazy eyes.  It's funny to me.
But these are his walrus teeth.  I didn't even know he knew a walrus well enough to imitate the teeth.

Ben's new favorite place is the exersaucer.  It's also Isaac's new favorite place so it's still not a safe zone to put the babe without some close supervision.
And really, Ben's favorite place is still in someones arms.

Isaac was really cute the other day though.  I put Ben in the exersaucer and showed Isaac how we could teach Ben how each toy worked.  I showed Isaac how to show Ben to spin that little spinner part you can see in the pictures.  I then praised Isaac for being kind and teaching his brother.  I told him that was an important job of a big brother.  So Isaac then ran and got Jacob's scriptures and sat on the floor to teach Ben "music."  He sang him a few songs while pointing at some of the words in the scriptures.  It was so cute.

Ben's cute little 1st Easter outfit.  It has bunny feet and a bunny tail on the bum.  Ben rocks that little bunny tail.

This picture is horrible quality but still captures some Isaac awesomeness.  The other thing he loves to do with all my pots and pans is make drums, violins, and cellos.  He is playing the cello in this picture and his drum set is on the floor around him.  And yes, he is pant-less on a Sunday afternoon.  That's just how we roll.  And, he's back in diapers.  The potty training went south after 2 really good weeks.  It got pretty ugly with me getting angry and Isaac crying.  It just wasn't a battle I wanted to continue to fight.  So, we are taking a break.

Ben found his toes.  It was hard to get a picture of him actually grabbing them because he lets go so quickly...

And that is what's up in our neck of the woods.

Moments of Motherhood Goodness

I've been having kind of a hard week.  Just feeling a little blah in general and more specifically feeling pretty less successful at this whole mom gig.  I'm sure many of you can relate to that.  Some days, or weeks, are just like that.

But there are moments of goodness even through the feelings of failure.

Today I have been more on the lookout for those moments, or maybe I'm getting out of my funk in general and can just appreciate these little ones for who they are.  And just so I can always remember I'm going to share a couple of my moments.

The new church magazines arrived yesterday.  While Ben was playing happily in his exersaucer I called Isaac over to me to check out his new magazine.  We sat for several minutes looking at the pictures of the Temples and talking about them.  It was one of those times when Isaac wanted my arm around him and I love that.  It was good.

And just now I was able to enjoy some time with just Ben and I while Isaac and Jacob were running a little errand.  I went to his room to feed him a bottle and rock him.  I cracked the curtains so I could watch the snow fall.  It was a moment of peaceful bliss.  Ben fell asleep while eating and I just got to rock him and snuggle him and enjoy his cute little head resting on my shoulder.  Love that!

A Day at the Park

We had Lovely weather last week and made good use of it at our neighborhood park.  On Friday, my friend Lori brought along her nice camera.

Though it was sunny it has been a little windy still.

Isaac loves his red socks.  Anytime he picks his own it's those ones.

An Oreo break.

Snow Day

A couple Saturdays ago we were supposed to get the "snow storm of the year."  Well, it did snow but it certainly didn't pan out to be as big as it was said to be.  But, we had declared it a snow day the night before and had planned some fun indoor activities.

We started the morning making crepes.  Yum.  And Isaac thought it was really awesome to drink milk straight from the container.  He was fast at getting it to his mouth so I didn't even have time to stop him.  That became his personal container of milk.  It was mostly empty anyway and the 2%, so no harm done.

Ben looked cute while we made breakfast.  And he waited patiently for a bottle.  He's good like that.

And then, after "quiet time," we set up a family room movie theater.  We watched the first part of Ratatouille and ate chocolate chip cookies and cheerio snack (Jacob's grandfather's treat).  It was fun.

Ben didn't really watch the movie.  He mostly slept.  At least for a little bit.  His naps have been a little sketchy lately.  And it's funny to see him with the pacifier because a few days ago he mostly gave it up.  I'm not sure what to do with him now that he won't take it...guess we'll adapt.  There's been a lot more crying the past few days though, I'll tell you that much.

Happy Snow Day to us!

Blokus and Brothers

Isaac and Ben had to stay home from church last Sunday due to colds.  (Can I just say again how ready I am for Spring and cold season to be done!)  While he was home with Dad he learned to play Blokus.  Well, sort of any way.  It's more of a puzzle than a game when you play with a 2 year old but it was surprisingly still fun.  We played the next day for Family Home Evening too.  He calls it Blockie.  It's cute.

A few weeks ago he wanted to wear my jacket.  It looked better all zipped up but I wasn't fast enough with the camera.

I did, however, snag a few pictures of me and my cute boys.  Ben is getting so big...it's ridiculous how quickly the time goes.
