I forgot that I wanted to blog about this little experience so that one day, when Isaac is older, I can remember to tell him.
President Obama was in Fort Collins speaking at the college not too long ago. August 28 to be exact. The next day Jacob left for work as usual but I got a call from him shortly after he got to work. He told me he barely made it the few blocks to work because police were closing off the main street by our home. He told me President Obama's motorcade would be coming our way soon.
I figured this may be a once in a lifetime opportunity so I grabbed Isaac and walked down to the corner by the gas station to see the Presidential motorcade. Turns out "soon" was relative. I got tired of holding Isaac so I walked back to the house and go the stroller. Isaac loved watching the police cars driving up and down the shut down road with their sirens and lights while we waited for the main event.
The President and his large posse finally drove by, pretty quickly might I add, and that was that. They were preceded by many police officers on their motorcycles. I was surprised by how big the entourage was. And quite surprised by how strict the police officers were about not even letting people off the edge of the sidewalk. I guess a President's safety isn't taken lightly.
After it was all said and done Isaac said "Again. Police Cars, again!."
Apparently it was a hit.

"What Do You Do All Day?"
Sometimes people ask me what I do all day. I don't really care for this question and I especially don't like it when it comes from another "stay at home mom." I don't like it because how do you describe the ins and outs of taking care of a toddler? And how do you talk about it without making it sound way less important than it is? Maybe I'm just not good at answering the question. I don't know.
But...a couple of days ago I took some picture of Isaac playing and I absolutely love them because they show a little bit of "what I do all day."
This first picture I fully intended to be last, but for some reason I can't get it there. So, before we get into some cute photos of Isaac playing in the backyard I'll tell you that we moved Isaac from his crib/toddler bed to a full twin bed. And he couldn't be happier. He has LOVED it. I've never seen a kid more excited to go to sleep as he was that first night. And then the squeal of delight the following night when we let him pick out new sheets for his "big boy bed." Oh man, it was adorable. He picked out construction sheets. He loves all things construction. He was upset when we laid him down on his bed on his back because he couldn't see the diggers. We had to remind him that it was fine to turn on his side or stomach if he wanted to see the sheets better. Awesome!
On to the playing.
In the same vein as the love of construction, he loves digging in the dirt.

And then he discovered a lady bug. He was somewhat reluctant to touch it but I convinced him they were okay bugs to hold.
He also really liked picking the awesome 5 pronged carrot from our garden. He even got to eat it for lunch.
We were thrilled later that afternoon when Daddy came home from work a little early. I got to prepare dinner while these two enjoyed more play time in the leaves. It's going to be a great Fall!

A Big Fat Catch Up
I've been meaning to blog about Labor day and some other random things all week, but then Isaac got sick and a lot of things I was meaning to do just didn't happen. He has hand, foot, and mouth and has been pretty miserable. We have all been very fortunate these past almost two years and have not really had to deal with anything more than colds, ear infections, and general teething discomfort. But, Wednesday Isaac experienced his first real fever and vomiting. And I experienced my first clean (2nd and 3rd) clean up after kid throwing up. Let us hope we can continue with our overall very healthy child. Because none of us loved Wednesday. And then Isaac got sores in his mouth Thursday afternoon and has had difficulty eating and drinking and is generally just cranky. I can't blame him. I'm sure it's awful.
But the good news is he seems to be doing much better today on all accounts. He's happier and it hasn't been nearly the battle it was to get him to eat and drink.
So, on to the catching up.
Aren't these boys handsome. I think so!

Isaac has really been enjoying his trains and cars these days. He likes for me to get a plank of wood from the garage that he can use as a ramp.
I made Isaac an apron. I was going to teach this pattern of my mother-in-law's as an option at our upcoming Relief Society activity but we decided to do something a little more doable in the time we have. I think my "practice" was worth it though. It's pretty cute.
Nope, this isn't my kid. We were lucky to have Diana, Sam and baby Brinton come for Labor Day weekend. Brinton is a ball of cuteness. He is so chunky and smiley and pleasant. I know it was a rough start for D with this kiddo but he is calming and really was a pretty easy going baby. Isaac loved having him here, even if he was confused about who was baby Brinton and who was Uncle Sam.
Some of the highlights from D and Sam being here were a trip to the farmers market for some fresh produce, Big City Burrito, learning a few new games (Guillotine and Loot), attending Church together where Isaac learned how fun it is to blow on the hair of the lady in front of us ("I blow hair!"), watching Isaac put the nursing cover on Sam and then wanting the "baby, out" of the pack and play so Sam could feed him, and lots and lots of eating yummy food. Thanks for the visit D and Sam!
Later Monday afternoon Jacob and I took Isaac to this weird little place in town called the Sweatsville Zoo. It's this strange collection of different metal sculptures. We didn't walk the whole zoo but did really enjoy this section with all the dinosaurs. Isaac really likes dinosaurs. I liked the rock band trio above.
And for those who care, this is me 27 weeks pregnant with baby boy number two. It's super strange for me to think that in 10 weeks we could have a baby that is "full term." Is it weird to hope this baby actually stays inside until his due date. I don't feel at all ready for this change in our family. I'm actually pretty freaked out. Don't worry though, I'm also excited to meet this kiddo and get to see what he will look like and be like. I just hope I can handle a new baby with much more ease and grace than I did with Isaac. Perhaps it will help to have a little experience under my belt and I'm sure I have much more realistic expectations.
And here's a close up of poor little Isaac. Right as we were heading out the door for the zoo he fell head first down the garage steps. Luckily he ended up wedged between the stairs and recycle bin so he never hit the pavement. He just got a good scratch starting at his forehead and ending on his collar bone.
Here is a picture of the latest quilt for our newest niece Ruby. Jacob's youngest sister had her baby a few weeks ago and we still need to send this little gift off. I think it turned out well.
And last, but not least, in an attempt to get Isaac to eat something that might feel good on his throat I gave him chocolate pudding. He did pretty well with it and then discovered finger painting. I was just happy to see him enjoying something.
