Trunk or Treat

We attended our Ward Halloween carnival and trunk or treat this past weekend. We had a great time and, I for one, was happy to not have to plan anything. Jacob and I were both on the activities committee last year when they were planning all for the first carnival. Luckily I was released long before Halloween to serve in the Young Women's program. Jacob, however, remained on the committee through Halloween. Last year we didn't actually attend the activity though. I'm pretty sure Isaac was 3 days old and we were at home.

But...on to this years festivities!
Isaac got a cupcake from the cake walk.
And...he still didn't eat cake. That nibble you see in the photo is about all he wanted of it. So, more for me I guess. :)

He did really love this punching balloon though. Some kid had abandoned it (at least I hope it was abandoned) and Isaac picked it up and carried it around for a long time.

He may not like cake, but he LOVED the pumpkin sucker I let him have later that night.

A Birthday Celebration

Here are some of the photos from Isaac's big day. We had him open some of his presents before Jacob left for work, some while Jacob was home for lunch, and finished up when friends and family were over for cake and ice cream that evening.

Jacob and I bought him this collapsible tunnel from Ikea. He liked it that first day and since hasn't played with it too much. I'll have to put it away for awhile and pull it out some random day like it's brand new again.

He might have liked the wrapping paper more than any of his actual gifts.

And Jacob may like the collapsible tunnel more than Isaac does.

I made rainbow cupcakes that I had seen online and vanilla bean butter cream frosting. They were pretty good.

Isaac's cake was also rainbow on the inside.

And Isaac didn't care for the cake much at all. He grabbed the colored dots off his cake and was trying to share them with me.

And then he wanted a fork.

And one bite is about all he ate of his cake. And he didn't really touch the ice cream either. It looks more gone than it was because Jacob and I had slices of the birthday boy's cake instead of cupcakes.

He was lucky to get many wonderful gifts from friends and family. We are grateful to you all for helping us celebrate Isaac. And we are grateful to have Isaac in our family!

1 Year Old
(What better way to celebrate a Birthday morning than chillin' in a drawer?)
I'm not gonna lie, I got all emotional and teary eyed while putting this post together. This first year has been one wild ride and I can't believe how much my life has changed. And so much for the better!
Isaac made me a mother. I had no idea what that really meant, and I'm pretty sure I'm still figuring it out, but I am grateful for having the chance to experience all that motherhood entails. I always wanted to be a mom and now I will be forever. And more than that I am so lucky to be this kid's mom! He is pretty much the best thing ever.
Did you know that Isaac means "he will laugh?" Well, it does. And it suits him. He is the happiest baby around. And he makes me happy.
So, Happy Birthday Mr. Magoo! I love you.

Early Winter

We woke this morning to this scene:
The tree limbs were touching the ground. Jacob spent some time shaking snow off the tree and we were glad he did. Driving around town and in our neighborhood there are many trees that didn't fare as well as ours did. So many snapped branches. I guess that's what happens when a heavy snow arrives before all the leaves have fallen.

Isaac spent much of his day like this:

He was totally fascinated with the snow. I had a busy day and wanted to wait for Jacob to be home before introducing him to the snow. So the window watching had to do.

Until:

Oh man! Could this bundled up kid be any cuter!? I am loving it. And Isaac mostly kept his hat and mittens on. That's pretty impressive in my book.

He's doing a lot of spitting and tongue-sticking-outing these days. It makes for one slobbery mess. Especially when he was already a drooly baby to begin with.

And then the fun ended. He didn't love being plunked in the middle of the snow covered grass. Not sure he's a huge fan of the snow in general actually. Jacob thinks it's because it makes it hard for him to walk. And while that may be true, I would suspect the chilliness of it adds to the dislike. Plus, he's maybe coming down with a cold anyway. No one likes being cold when you have a cold...

And here is the finished quilt for Isaac's birthday. I really like the way it turned out. It's bright and fun and has dinosaurs on it. Perfection.

I especially love the fabric selected for the backing. Super cute. But probably the cutest thing is the little soon-to-be one year old pulling off his sock.
