A Boy and His Bath

This kids loves, LOVES, his bath. And he's pretty fun all splashing around. My new favorite thing is to tell him to wash a specific body part and see if he knows it. He's pretty good. I stumped him with elbow though. It gets a little harder for him if the body parts aren't in "Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes." I also love when he says lip. It's pretty much "hip" but for some reason I think it's the cutest thing. I can't believe how smart and talkative this little guy is.
He's my favorite.

Finished

I'm finished with a couple of things.
1. I'm kinda over the photo a day. It's turning into more of another thing on my "to do" list and less of the fun learning experience it started out as. So, I'm done. And I'm cool with not finishing even 29 days of photos. I do, however, hope and intend to continue taking more photos so I can keep practicing and documenting my day to day stuff. I probably won't be posting as often though. I know, you are sad. I think you'll get over it though. :)
2. I finished the quilt for Sarah's new little girl. They are all home safe and sound now. Jacob and I hope to go visit this weekend and I'm glad I will have this quilt ready to deliver. Well, glad and sad. It's always a little sad for me to work really hard on something and love the end result and then have to part with it. And I do love this one. I think it turned out so cute. I just wish you could pre-shrink charm packs so the final quilt was as big as the pre-washed version. Oh well. Still really cute!
Here's the front.

And here's the back.

This was my first time piecing the back of a quilt and also my first time binding a quilt they way you are supposed to. I'm usually a pretty lazy quilter and have always rolled the backing fabric to the front and machine sewn it down. And I've always been okay with that. Until this quilt. The back was too small and so I didn't have the option of shortcuts. And I love the striped binding. I didn't love sewing it by hand but I might be convinced to bind more traditionally from here on out.
I was telling Jacob that I feel a little bad for my nieces and nephews who are on the older side of things because they got quilts that weren't as cute as they ones I'm making now. I'm getting better as I do more (naturally) and those first quilts were certainly nothing to get excited about. Sorry older nieces and nephews. Especially sorry to those that were born before I got into quilting at all. Maybe I should go back and make them twin sized ones now...or maybe not.

Photo a Day: #20 - a day late

This is my handwriting for Jacob's valentine. It was a pretty cute idea off pinterest. I hope you can't read to much of my personal cheese to my husband. That'd be awkward. But this was laying on the counter and fit the theme of the day.
I did actually take this photo yesterday.
I did not, and do not intend to, take a photo for today's theme: A fav photo of you. And the reason is, I'm super tired. Jacob's sister had her baby last night and we had our nephew Maxwell dropped at our house at about 12:30 am. And then none of us fell back asleep until about 2ish. Except Isaac. Who was then fully rested at 7 am. I'm not used to 5 hours of sleep and an extra child most of the day. So tired!
Maybe it'd be okay for Isaac to be an only child. Except not. Only children are missing out on too much sibling goodness! I just don't know how moms do it.

Photo a Day: #19

So for Sundays being "a day of rest" they happen to be one of the most stressful days of the week for me. There are several things I dislike about Sunday.
1. I dislike getting myself ready for church.
2. I dislike getting a diaper bag ready for Isaac to go to church.
3. I dislike having to wake Isaac up early from his nap to go to church.
4. I dislike not getting much out of church because Jacob and I are dealing with a super tired (ie, crazy active, loud, and liable to cray at anything) Isaac.
But mostly I dislike Monday morning when it's time to clean up from the chaos of the weekend. I still can't figure out why it's so much easier to keep the house clean during the week. It's probably just that I make more time to do it and the weekends fill with bigger projects and fun activities. And Jacob's home too. He's not that messy or unwilling to help clean up after himself, don't get me wrong. It's just one more persons mess consistently there.
And these aren't good pictures. But I didn't want to get behind again so they are the best I was willing to do today. And, I am super embarrassed to post it.

Photo a Day: #17 and #18

Yeah, yeah. We all knew it would happen. I got behind a little. And actually I was just going to skip day 17 since I sort of hated the topic of time and when the evening rolled around and I still hadn't snapped a photo I was ready to give up.
But then I saw this beauty hangin' out this afternoon and thought it was a good representation of why I missed taking a photo in the first place. I am busy trying to get a quilt done for Sarah's new baby that is due to come at the end of this month. I'm doing free motion machine quilting on my machine for the first time. It's a bit of an adventure. I love the quilt though. I'm excited to get the binding on it and finish it up. I'll post a picture when it's complete.

We went to the Temple today and that trip also usually includes a stop at Costco. We were out of water bottles so we bought more. And I drank one on the car ride home. So did Isaac, sort of.

Photo a Day: #16

This is our new pet owl. It has taken up residence in our tree out back. We are pretty sure it is a Great Horn Owl of some variety. It stays there all day, leaves at night, and then is back the next morning. Can anyone who knows anything about owls please tell me if it is okay to have him living in our back yard. Also, what should we name our new pet?

And another "new" thing. Isaac has never experienced a bandaid before. Surprising, yes. Considering how many falls this kid has I'm shocked we've never had to whip one of these out before. But mostly his bleeding is in his mouth or other less bandaid friendly zones. He has one on now because he has a sliver under his nail that I can't get out. The nurse at my doctor's office told me to keep vaseline on his nail covered with a bandaid to help draw out the splinter. Ha! I can't keep a bandaid on him. And he won't let me near the finger either. He says "hurt" every time I try to get at it. I'm afraid I'm going to have to take him to the doctor to have her fish it out. The nurse told me if I couldn't get it they would have to so as to avoid infection. What a silly thing to have to see a doctor about.
Any suggestions on the pesky sliver?

Photo a Day: #15

And some bonus pictures because Isaac is too cute. I hated the subject of "phone" but I love Isaac with the phone. He is so funny when he picks up the phone and yells "hi" over and over again. And then he'll come to me and press the phone to my ear for me to say hi a few times too.

And he's super extra drooly because he is teething again. But when is he not teething really?

Photo a Day #14

Yeah, I've been eating way too many of these lately. They are amazing. You can make them yourself here.

But I also liked how this one turned out so you get a bonus picture today too.

And, Jacob is super sweet and gave me a scavenger hunt with a clue every hour leading me to one of these boxes. In each box was something sentimental about our relationship and some Dove chocolates. Good job Jacob! I loved it.

Photo a Day: #13

I was amazed we had blue skies today. We've been mostly overcast and snowy the past few days.

And a bonus Boy in Blue. I didn't even dress him today...so it totally wasn't planned.

Photo a Day: #12

Jacob chose this first photo as the winner for the day. I couldn't decide. So, I also included the runner ups. Which do you like best?

Do you get the sense that "inside my closet" isn't that clean. You'd be right. I'm a little shamed to post any pictures of the mess actually.

Photo a Day: #10

Let's just be honest. I was not looking forward to this day. Self portraits...ugh.
But I actually kinda like how this one turned out. I wish it were in focus though. Turns out it's super hard getting a good self portrait in a mirror on an overcast day. I think with it being a little out of focus it's a little more artsy for some reason. Also it helps that I was standing away from the door frame and took down the picture on the wall.
Well, just see for yourself.

Phew...self portraits: done.

Photo a Day: #9

I'm lovin' the reflection off the storm door.

But seriously. Let's talk front doors.
Since recently getting our house painted this grey color Jacob and I have been discussing painting our front door a fun color. We are mostly thinking yellow but I have some concerns with a yellow door next to these bricks. Thoughts?
I have also been toying with the idea of getting rid of the storm door all together. I have a love hate relationship with it. Again, thoughts?
We are also looking at updating the door knobs (both inside and out, and all the other brassy metal in our home) since our door knob on the door from the house into the garage is no longer totally functioning. We initially thought we would change out all the ugly brass for a brushed nickel. But, we have really orangey wood going on in the interior of our home. So I'm not sure the nickel is the way to go. I'm leaning towards the burnished black. I also think that's the way most people are leaning these days. I think the upgrading of the door knobs is going to be a slow endeavor as our funds are limited so it won't happen all at once.
So, what do you think?

Models in the Making

While Jacob's mom was here over Christmas she had the boys model her latest designs for the pattern covers. Maxwell was over the other day for a short visit and Jacob had the idea of taking a picture of the boys with their covers.

This picture cracks me up. It looks like Isaac is saying "Look, it's me. Really."

And if you are interested...here is a link to the website to buy these adorable bib patterns. My mother-in-law also has a lot of cute apron and other things. Check them out.

Sun take 2

I remembered later today that what I really wanted to capture for this subject was the setting sun. So, after getting back from running errands this afternoon I stepped onto my front porch to take a quick photo or two.
I have always loved sunsets.

Photo a Day: #8

I was worried we wouldn't have any sun today and my topic for the day would be a disaster. But we lucked out. I didn't know how long the sun would last though, this is Colorado after all, so I took a few quick shots this morning. I liked the sun and shadow on the snow.
