4 Months Old

Happy 4 months to Isaac!

He is getting to be such a big baby boy. He seems really strong to me. He does things that I'm pretty sure babies his age shouldn't do so well. He loves to stand and can basically support himself. His balance isn't stellar so he needs his hands held, but come on, he's just four months old! He has recently started lifting his head off the ground when on his back like he wants to sit up or see his feet or something. He rolled over from stomach to back on Valentine's Day and we have yet to see it again. I think he might be a little stubborn. He learned quickly how to avoid taking his acid reflux medication and now clamps his jaw shut or sticks his tongue out when he sees the syringe coming. He hasn't rolled from back to stomach but I think it's coming soon.

But maybe his biggest accomplishment is being able to fall asleep in his crib. He no longer cries for what seems like an eternity. It is down to more like 5 minutes and then he is asleep. At least most of the time. He still doesn't stay asleep for longer than 40 minutes (usually), but progress is progress no matter how small.

He also laughed at me yesterday for the first time. He has some really great "goos" and squeals but hasn't really full on laughed before. It was pretty cute.

Basically he is a good, happy boy and it is fun watching him grow and develop. I am lucky to be his mom and to spend my days with him. He is pretty adorable.

This one really sums up what Isaac is all about. He has always loved putting things in his mouth...and seems to continue in that trend.

Sleeping Babies - An Update

Isaac has done a little better today with the sleeping so I thought I would share some adorable photos. The first few are from a few days ago when he was still sleeping his naps in our bedroom in his inclined sleep chair.

Seriously, does it get any better than that?

I think not.

Really Losing It

Can I just say again, babies are hard.

Jacob and I are trying to get Isaac sleeping in his own room in his crib. He has been sleeping in an inclined seat/sleeper thing in our room so the transition to flat on his back is a struggle.

He is crying a lot.

I am crying a lot.

Jacob is lucky to go to work tomorrow and get away from this crying household.

We started yesterday and he slept very little. He would go to sleep okay but staying asleep was a different story. And then the evening came. He's always a little more difficult to get to sleep in the evenings and yesterday was especially bad. At 10:20 last night I gave up and put him in our room in his inclined sleeper again.

We've decided to do things a little more slowly and focus on just getting him used to the crib during nap times. I can't do the crying and up all night right now.

Today has been a little better. Still not sleeping as long as he usually would during his naps, but at least he is sleeping some.

The crying is still hard. I hate it. It makes me feel like a bad parent. But, I don't know how else to help him learn to sleep in his crib.

I think I am destined to be the mother of one.

But he sure looks cute sleeping in that crib. I'll post a picture tomorrow.

That is if I'm not too busy cutting my ears off.

Losing It

So, there is a recently discovered commonality amongst all the Brunsons in this household. And I'm sad to report it's not necessarily a good thing.

We are all losing our hair.

I'm shedding like crazy, though I suppose that is normal post-pregnancy. But I also got a hair cut. Not a great one, but one just the same. Isaac had his first babysitter a couple weeks ago while I treated my hair to a much needed chop. He stayed with a former co-worker of mine for a little over an hour and was a dream come true. Too bad I can't say the same for my hair... Nope, no pictures of me. Sorry.

Jacob has always been losing his hair so this really isn't new for him. But his hair cut is.

And Isaac. Poor baby. He is totally rocking a receding hairline. And when I say "rocking" I mean he has some weird looking hair these days. He's losing some on top because it's falling out. And then he's got some hair loss on one side that is pretty severe.

And of course there is the infamous rubbed off hair spots. He has the obvious one on the back of the head.

But my little boy is special because when he goes to sleep he turns his head from side to side so he is losing his hair in a nice ring from ear to ear. It's making for some awesome mullet weirdness.

Good thing I still think he's cute.

Valentines Day

Happy Valentine's Day to all!

Jacob gave me flowers. We bought a new cookbook and board game.

And...

Isaac rolled over for the first time.

Jacob got one on video and if I can figure it out I'll post it here. He rolled from stomach to back and then repeated it three times this morning. I haven't seen it since. I thought for sure once he figured it out he'd do it the second I put him on his stomach because he doesn't love his tummy time. But nope, he hasn't done it again since this morning. Silly baby.

Okay, Next Question

I appreciate the feedback about my parenting questions. So much so that I have another.

Isaac has been sleeping swaddled in one of those cotton swaddlers with velcro to keep it shut, you know what I'm talking about? But, I think he wants to be done with it. He never loved the initial swaddle anyway but would sleep longer without his hands waking him up. However, now he is breaking free of the swaddle and waking himself up anyway. But I think the swaddling is a cue to sleep as part of his routine. Sing, swaddle, put in bed. And usually he is out within 15 minutes.

So, how do I transition him from sleeping swaddled to sleeping unswaddled? Any one have experience in that department?
