Gardens and Mac and Cheese

Last Saturday we put the garden in. And when I say we I mean mostly Jacob. I helped a very tiny bit. But I am excited about it. We planted three tomato plants, two hanging in baskets; Anaheim, green bell, and jalapeno peppers, zucchini, lettuce, and we are working on some herbs. Yummy. I can almost taste the fresh salsa already.

Then on Sunday Jacob and I gathered some folks for the great Mac and Cheese taste off. This was somewhat similar to the Carter Pizza Challenge we had a few years ago. Remember that folks? Good times. So, we bought all the different brands of boxed, original Mac and Cheese to see which was the best. Is it really worth paying the extra money for "The Blue Box?"

Turns out it is not. The King Soopers (Kroger) brand won out. It was really close between the Kroger, Safeway and Kraft brands. So, safe your pennies folks. Head to the local King Soopers (AKA Smith's) and buy that brand. But be very sure not to buy the Kroger Value box. There is a HUGE difference. Both in price and quality. That stuff was NASTY! And if you really like salty and bright orange Mac and Cheese, go for the Wal Mart brand.

And now you know. And knowing is half the battle.

Mac and cheese is nasty. I am not sure I could distinguish between varying degrees of nastyness. The garden does look like fun, I am a little envious.

I hope your produce turns out lovely. I will enjoy reading your blog about picking them in the Philippines (if we get passports and visas by then). We can trade stories of eating ripe local produce. Fun! It is nice to have a house and a yard. Wish I could see it. Maybe soon.

I agree with your mac and cheese assesment - the Kroger brand is as good as Kraft. But that Kroger value stuff is the nastiest thing ever! Good luck with the garden

Thanks! I'll keep that in mind. My kids love mac and cheese. Although where we're moving there is no Kroger, or Smiths. Boo. How about Albertsons brand?

That message is really from Kim (Strupp) I just don't want to log out and sign back in under my name.

Bless you for your creativity. Like ideas have struck me before- figuring out the best mac and cheese brand, but I decided I don't eat enough mac and cheese to really take the time to figure it out. Finally, I know for sure.

Also, I've had that Kroger mac and cheese. It made me almost sign off from macaroni forever.

Ps. Watch out for those Kroger people. Now you've dissed their mac, they will probably assign some hit people to you and Jacob. Just keep your eyes keen for bush lurkers. And keep the bushes low so they can't hide behind them.
