The Magical Month

I can't tell you how many times I have heard "it will get better" since Isaac was born. And most of those people were specific in saying things got better at "12 weeks" or "3 months."

Well, we are officially at that magical 3 month mark. I'm not sure there was any overnight kind of change like some people talked about, but all in all, things have gotten better. At least in some ways. Like the more routine days. More time between feedings. Less crying overall. Way more smiles and interaction.

So, in honor of Isaac's three months of life, here is a list of things I adore about my son and some of his accomplishments. Because let's face it, my son is a genius. :) But I also want to be realistic so I'm including the few things that I like less too.

Things I like less:

1. Still waking up 2 times at night to feed him.

2. He has started crying in his sleep during nap times. Sometimes just a whimper and then back to sleep, sometimes full on wailing and still asleep or it wakes him up prematurely. Definitely not my favorite.

3. Crying before nap times and bed time. He used to go to sleep relatively peacefully, not so much any more. Not my favorite.

Things I Can't Get Enough Of:

1. I love his smile. Seriously, can't be beat. I love when he smiles at something he did and when he smiles at his dad. But mostly I love when he looks at me and breaks out a big grin. I especially love it when it comes first thing in the morning or as I'm putting him to sleep at night. Makes the crying times worth it.

2. I love all the fun noises he makes. He goos and blows raspberries and makes high pitched squeals of excitement. And they are all adorable.

3. I love that he is a social baby. He has to be where the action is and likes to be a part of it. He loves people. I guess in someways I also hate this because it sure does make it difficult to put him to sleep at church or when there is a lot going on. But I think he gets it from me and so I kind of love it.

4. I love watching him explore new things and develop new skills. He can now hold his rattle and other toys quite well. I think I even saw him pass the rattle from one hand to another but I can't be sure. He loves to put things in his mouth and is a huge drooler. He mostly hates his "tummy time" so he probably doesn't get nearly as much as he should, but when he is on his stomach he demonstrates his desire for mobility. He doesn't just lay there, that is for sure. He has been known to start getting up on his knees with his butt in the air. He can't support any of his weight on his arms so he mostly ends up with his face in the blanket from the force of his legs. It's pretty funny. He is getting pretty good at holding his head up and raising on his arms a little though. He has great leg strength and prefers to be standing when held.

5. I love his bright blue eyes with super long lashes. He gets lots of compliments about those eyes.

6. I love his double chin and chubby cheeks. I can't stop kissing those cheeks.

7. I love when he falls asleep while eating and has his arm rested gently on my chest. I love holding him when he is asleep, though I try not to do that as often as I used to. I love him asleep on my shoulder.

8. I love his pleasure with himself after he poops. I know that sounds weird. But, he is so funny because he will freeze, take care of business, and then grin in sheer delight. It's awesome.

9. I'm not sure I love this but it does make me a little excited. Sometimes, when he is asleep mostly, I can see the little boy in my baby. I can just see what he will look like at 2 and 3 years old. It makes me sad to know how fast time goes by yet makes me excited for the fun little boy he will become.

But for now I will just enjoy the adorableness of this 3 month old baby.

PS. For those interested in stats, I weighed Isaac today and he is 13 pounds 8 ounces.
