Helper

Not only is Isaac super independent, he also wants to help me with everything.  His new word is "helpful" and he says it like he's congratulating himself every time I tell him thank you.  He still wants to have his turn doing things that Jacob and I do.

I was measuring and marking places for hanging some valances and after each window I heard "Isaac's turn."  Yes, it was.

And I thought I'd show off my cute husband bringing me flowers for no particular reason.  He told me it was his goal to do that more often this summer.  And it doesn't hurt that we discovered the manager's special section of the floral department so he can do it pretty inexpensively.

This bunch was especially pretty.  It had this one flower that I've never seen before.  Anyone know what it is?

We went to the splash pad again on Friday.

This time we went with cousins.  I have some cute cousin pictures but I'm not sure how comfortable Sarah is with photos of her kiddos on my blog so I'm not posting those.  They are cute though.  Isaac sure loves his cousin Maxwell.  And he recently learned he can make little Riley laugh.  It was adorable.  She really likes Isaac.  Me...not so much.  She's kind of a mama's girl.

And that's what we've been up to lately.

A Picture's Worth A Thousand Words

I just uploaded a ton of photos from who knows when and though I'd share them...with very little commentary.

These were taken today.  Yes, my house is a mess.  And yes, it's what it typically looks like.  Don't judge.

Apparently the kid has never seen a fly before.  But it was some serious fascination.

First experience with corn on the cob last night.

Then there was the time we first went to the splash park...we've been back but I still can't get a good photo. Either I forget the camera or he's too busy running or both.

And that one time we went to City Park to ride the trolley.  He still talks about the trolley months later.

He really wasn't bored.  Just completely fascinated.  And the trolley is loud so maybe a he was a little unnerved at first too.

He's into bandaids.  Even made of tape.

And he loves shoes, especially his Dad's.

Remember that really big fire in our County.  It made for some beautiful and crazy sunsets.  The sun was really bright red.  We couldn't get a great picture of it though.

Phew...totally updated now.

Oh, and PS, for those wondering I was officially taken of "pelvic rest" and have been free to be as active as I wish.  It's been wonderful!  Though I'm still behind on my massive to do list.

A Good Day

I wanted to take a minute and remember the good day I had today.  It was certainly nothing spectacular as far as events go.  Pretty run of the mill actually.  But for some reason it just felt good.  I'm pretty sure it was because of my attitude.  And I'm not sure what exactly caused the shift but for some reason I just had a little more patience with Isaac and maybe more energy too.  Whatever it was, it was good.

I found myself more interested in why Isaac was doing what he was doing instead of just noticing what he was doing and the mess that usually follows his exploration.  It didn't matter as much when he was playing with his lunch because I realized he was probably experiencing bread crumbling for one of the first times. And I got to teach him a new word, "crumble."  And I was more patient in letting him play with the crayons when he wanted and with less supervision.  And guess what, nothing was damaged.  And he was able to trace his own hand over and over again.  I caught him singing "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" while he was working on buckling and unbuckling his high chair.  I didn't even know he knew that song.  Certainly didn't know he knew it well enough to sing on his own.  He talks so much and says the funniest things.  I wish I could remember everything that makes me smile and laugh right out loud.  "I carry you" when he wants to be picked up...love that.  And he's so polite, "bless you," "excuse me," "pleases" and "thank yous" abound. And I love when he says "baby brother."  Oh...and how can I forget his little prayers.  The things he prays for are becoming a little more discernible and frequently include "church," "nursery," and "toys."  And he's pretty good in beginning and ending prays in the appropriate way "Heavenly Father," and "name of Jesus Christ, Amen."  He LOVES Family Home Evening too.  The singing and the lessons from the nursery manual.  But, he has to be in charge of holding the pictures.

He's learning so much.  And he's growing so fast.  And I guess I'm just grateful for a day where I was able to appreciate him a little more than usual.

Hopefully I'll have many more of these days.  Because he's the cutest and best little boy in the world.  For real.

The Big Reveal

We had our 20 week ultrasound yesterday.  We haven't heard officially from the doctor yet, but the ultrasound tech said the placenta had moved away from the cervix as we had hoped would happen.  I guess it's still sitting pretty low and I don't know how that will impact things.  I'm hoping to hear from the Dr tomorrow that I can be off rest and free to lift and exercise as I please.  I guess I could do with a few more weeks of Jacob having to vacuum though.  :)

If you are thinking this picture looks familiar you are right.  The baby was basically doing the same hand sucking it was at 14 weeks.  Maybe we'll have a kid who will nurse well and take a pacifier, both things Isaac lacked.

And, in case you are wondering, this little cutie is not the GIRL I thought it would be.  We are having another BOY!!!  And I am excited about it.  I think Isaac will love having a brother to play with and I will love that all the same clothes, blankets and such will fit at the exact right season.

Happy Independence Day

We had a fun 4th of July this year.  Our town did a little parade this year to celebrate 100 years of City Park.  It was a very little parade, 20 minutes in total.  It was actually pretty perfect.  We weren't really up for spending 2 hours in the hot sun and this suited Isaac's attention span pretty well.  Plus, it was a parade full of old cars and horses.  Two things he loves.

And he got a sucker.  So he was pretty happy.

We then spent the afternoon with Jacob's Uncle and Aunt just outside of Denver.  We had dinner with them (delicious grilled chicken) and then went to their city park for a concert.  We opted to leave before fireworks began because we didn't want to be driving an hour or so home that late.  Isaac was still mostly awake when we neared home so we decided to stop at the city about 15 minutes to the south of us to see if we could catch their fireworks.  It was madness.  I'm sure they were twice as busy as usual because our city had canceled it's firework show.  So we drove around looking for parking for ever and then decided just to head home.  We were lucky to see some of the fireworks out our car window and hear them as we drove by.  So we had a parade, grilling, a concert and a few fireworks AND had Isaac in bed by about 9:45.
I call that a successful celebration.

Hope your celebration was too!

3rd Anniversary

Jacob and I celebrated our 3rd anniversary this past week.

Unfortunately we weren't really able to do much celebrating.  I had a Relief Society activity that night that ate up a lot of my time and attention planning and then carrying it out.  We are hoping to really celebrate in a couple weeks when we may head up to Breckenridge or something.  We're hoping I can get off this rest so I can actually enjoying hiking around and having some time away.  Here's hoping!

We did manage to go out to lunch that day (thanks to Sarah for watching Isaac) at the Olive Garden.  It was really nice.  And Jacob brought me a rose so that was also nice.

No matter how little fanfare there may have been I'm happy to have married Jacob three years ago.  He's a great husband and a fantastic father!
